The most dangerous words in a developer's vocabulary are: "But it worked on my machine." Equally perilous are the words: "It worked on Staging." If your staging environment isn't a near-identical clone of your Production setup, then your testing phase is merely a false sense of security.
Understanding the Drift Problem
Environment "drift" occurs when manual changes are made to a server—such as installing a library, modifying a firewall rule, or updating a Node version—without proper documentation. Over time, Staging and Production can evolve into entirely different ecosystems. This divergence can lead to unexpected issues when deploying code, ultimately resulting in the dreaded "fragile deployment" syndrome.
